Onion festival Saturday in Glennville GLENNVILLE - The 32nd annual Sweet Onion Festival here is set for Saturday and promises to be top even the previous 31. The day starts with a one-mile fun at 8 a.m. and a 3.1-mile run at 8:30 a.m. Festival gates at the state Farmers Market on Highway 301 open at 9 a.m. At 10, a parade rolls through downtown and south on 301. Student art draws praise Parents were not the only patrons impressed with the work that students displayed during the annual Arts Fest last week at Liberty County High School. Lewis Frasier Middle School art teacher Christine Newman has a degree in studio art, with experience in drawing, painting and ceramics. With her creative background, Newman connected with the various kinds of artwork, saying it was the first time she has seen so many "unique materials." Canal museum sets anniversary event The 16th annual Canal Anniversary Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum & Nature Center, 681 Fort Argyle Road, just over two miles past I-95. Pageant in Brunswick June 7 The Southeastern Scholarship Pageant will be on Saturday, June 7, at the Comfort Inn in Brunswick beginning at 10 a.m. Contestants, ages 0-23 year old females and 0-6 year old males, are being sought to participate. The Miss Southeastern Scholarship winner will receive a $500 scholarship to the school of her choice and the Teen Miss Southeastern Scholarship winner will receive a $100 savings bond. 20,000 expected at air show Tickets are available for a Liberty County first -- the Salute the Troops 2008 Air show. Reception opens art exhibit Leahy Art Gallery, Fine Art and Custom Framing will open its next art exhibition on Friday, May 9. There will be a reception with the artists from 5:30-9 PM.
