Wreck victims identified
The two people killed in a Tuesday evening wreck near Riceboro have been identified. Georgia State Patrol Trooper Robert Barry said Jonathon Russell, 10, and Amanda Wright, 19, died when the vehicle they were in collided with a pickup at the intersection of intersection of Barrington Ferry Road and Highway 17 just north of Riceboro. Apparent Humvee joy ride lands reservist in jail
Army reservist Sean Aaron Johnson, 23, was arrested at 10:25 a.m. Monday and charged with grand theft (of a motor vehicle valued greater than $100,000) by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. According to members of the Ludowici/Long County Fire Department, the toughest part of their jobs is getting equipment to a fire in a timely manner. After a house fire is reported, firefighters say they must head to the fire station, pick up the fire truck and equipment and drive to the fire, by which time, the structure is usually fully engulfed.

Area getting new marshal
Steve Smith, a 28-year veteran of the Savannah Police Department and a decorated Vietnam War veteran, has been appointed by President Barack Obama as the U.S. marshal for the Southern District of Georgia, following U.S. Senate confirmation in December.
