LUDOWICI -- The Long County E-911 Committee met on April 30, and GeoComm project manager Ron Bloom said the final modifications and architectural changes for the Wiregrass 911 Long/McIntosh Communication Center in Darien was nearly completed.
"We will be having an on-site walk through on May 14, and after that, the plans will be sent to us (GeoComm) for a final review," Bloom said.
Once this was done, he said a construction schedule would be established with the proposed contractors, so that a more definite time schedule for completing the center could be given.
GeoComm's Deb Rozeboom also reported that Long County had met its 98 percent match for a database, and with this completed, both Coastal Communications and Windstream Communications could now begin updating their systems with the information.
She also reported that the growth in Long County was evident by the number of new addresses she received from the county, but that the updating information process was working well between the county and GeoComm.
Rozeboom also reported that county residents would probably be receiving the final notification of any address changes in approximately two months, and once that letter had been received they could begin to change their addresses to their new E-911 mailing address.
County Clerk Mary Ann Odum reported to GeoComm that the overlapping exchange boundary map regarding telephone prefixes in the county, had been reviewed and all were in accordance with the information GeoComm had been provided.
The next meeting was scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the courthouse.
