A man was killed and woman was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Sunday morning in Riceboro.
According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Harry Middleton, the accident occurred about 12:15 am at the intersection of Oak Creek Road and Highway 17. The vehicle, described as a Saturn, was being driven west on Oak Creek at a high rate of speed. The driver, Krystal Miller, 23, lost control while rounding curve, hit an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll several times.
Travis Smith, 20, a passenger, was ejected and thrown 45 feet. He had not been wearing a seat belt, according to Middleton.
A Riceboro Fire and Rescue unit was dispatched to the scene and helped get Miller from the vehicle and set up a landing zone, where she was flown by LifeStar to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Her condition was not reported. According to Middleton, she suffered a cuts to her scalp and abdomen. Smith is believed to be a resident of Florida and may have been visiting family in the area.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation.
