First Presbyterian Christian Academy's Highlander basketball team and the Bethesda Blazers still battle on the hardwood as if they were fighting for another state title. But this season the school's are in different classifications, taking a bit of the pressure off both teams but not the game's intensity. On Friday night the Highlanders managed to stay ahead for a 72-66 win at home in their second meeting to date.
The Long County High School Lady Tide is back in action tonight against St. Vincent's Academy in Ludowici.
Former Blue Tide basketball and football standout Ricky Rivera was back in the area and on the hard court Saturday. Rivera, a guard with the Middle Georgia College basketball team, was in Brunswick where the Warriors took on the College of Coastal Georgia. The Warriors had to overcome a 10-point deficit at the half to pull out a tough 68-62 win over the Mariners. Though Rivera didn't put up any points in the game, he pulled down four defensive rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
A regulation basketball game is 32 minutes long. It took every one of those 32 minutes Saturday night for the Liberty County boys to beat visiting McIntosh County Academy 56-51.

Fans were on the edge of their seats Friday as the Lady Tigers trailed the visiting Windsor Forest squad by 2 late in the third quarter. The Lady Knights had hoped to upset the undefeated home team, but late fouls drawn by Lady Tiger Mariah Maternik and critical free throws clinched the Hinesville girls' 12th win of the season. They downed the Knights 41-36.
