Earlier today at the Long County GEMA Area 5 conference call, School Superintendent Dr. Robert Waters said that all of the county’s schools had been able to continue classes, and that all buses had managed to complete their morning routes with no problems on Friday.

Waters also said that, as of 1:00 PM, only one bus was scheduled to be detoured due to road conditions, in the afternoon, but that all parents should expect the buses to be arriving home with their children a few minutes late on Friday.

“We have stressed the importance to the drivers of being a little more careful today, and to take a little more time to be safe; as a result of this, parents can expect their kids to be a little late getting home”, said Waters.

The Superintendent also said that, buses were better suited to drive on undeveloped road, than autos, due to them having dual wheels, being more powerful, and weighing more.

Other information provided at the meeting, said that Long County went under a Tornado Watch, at around 11:30 AM and would be under one until 6:00 PM.  A tornado watch doesn’t mean a tornado has been spotted or seen, but does mean that conditions are present for one to possibly develop.

Ludowici/Long County Dispatcher, Brenda Truman said that despite the bad weather today, the only calls related to the storm on Friday, was a vehicle which bogged down on Concord Cemetery Road, and a vehicle which ran into a ditch on Highway 301.
