LUDOWICI —— A car fire Wednesday on Cypress Street slowed traffic, but was taken care of quickly. There were and no major problems with traffic.
According to Ludowici/Long County Fire Department Chief Darrell Ballance, a fire started under the hood of Edward Wayne's 1999 Plymouth Breeze as he was driving on Cypress toward Hinesville.
Firefighters received the call at 12:40 p.m. and arrived at the scene in three minutes.  According to Ballance, the fire was already under control, as a result of help from an off duty firefighter.
According to Ballance, Ludowici Police Officer J.D. Campbell arrived on the scene first, followed by Cory Bates, a firefighter with the Hinesville Fire Department who was passing by.  Bates and Campbell managed get the hood open and began putting out the flames with an extinguisher Campbell had in his vehicle.
The L/LCFD arrived shortly after, and engineer Alan Rhoden and firefighter Arthur Davis finished putting the fire out.
The cause of the fire was not determined, but according to Ballance, the automobile appeared to be a total loss.
The incident was over in about 15 minutes.
