The Lady Tigers refused to be shut out against Jenkins and fought hard to get points on the board in their 5-1 loss Thursday afternoon. Both teams were unable to put points on the board until the fourth inning when Jenkins scored a run. The Lady Tigers stepped up defensively and held them to that single run until the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning Christian Mahaney of Jenkins came in with a run, making it a 2-0 game. Two other Jenkins players were able to get hits and placed themselves on second and third. The next batter for Jenkins made a hit and the ball was thrown to home. It appeared to most in the stands and dugout that catcher Danielle Jacobs had tagged the girl out at home before being tripped by the runner causing the ball to come out of the glove. Amid the confusion, the other runners on base for Jenkins came in making it a 5-0 game to start the sixth inning.
Senior pitcher Jena Alford made a hit putting her on first base. She stole second base and made it to third off Brandi Huerd’s hit. Kelsey Rogers bunted to bring Alford in.
After the game, Danielle Jacobs said she did not dwell on what was a possible bad call by the officials, saying things like that happen sometimes in a game and dwelling on them didn’t help. Alford added that as frustrating as losses may be it is being able to move passed them and think about the next game that matters, not dwelling on the past.
The Lady Tigers face Groves next Thursday at 4 p.m. at home.
