New England Patriots linebacker and Bradwell Institute alum Gary Guyton will be in Hinesville today and tomorrow to kick off his first-ever Gary Guyton Sports Festival.

According to Guyton’s publicist, Greg Benton of Flying Color Sports, more than 200 kids are pre-registered for the event, which will feature a race this afternoon styled after the popular TV program "Amazing Race."

The race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

Benton said the race will pit teams against each other in a 1.5-mile course filled with fun pit stops and team challenges.

On Saturday, the fun continues as Guyton, a few of his former teammates from Georgia Tech and Patriots teammate Daryl Richards teach children the fundamentals of football during a clinic at 10 a.m.

There will also be a cheerleading clinic.

At 2 p.m., the pros will teach clinics on basketball, dance and golf.

In between events, T-shirts will be available for sale and Guyton will sign autographs.

In the afternoon, the action will be in Bradwells’ gym where a basketball contest will pit students against each other in a three-point shooting contest at 5 p.m. Afterwards, the NFL celebrities and guests will take the court against area teachers in the NFL vs. teachers celebrity game.

Admission to the basketball events is $8 at the door. The celebrity game starts at 6 p.m.

Guyton said he would like to make the event annual. He said it is his way of giving back to the kids in the community where he was raised. He said the event promotes character development, fitness, endorses academic achievement and a drug-free lifestyle.
