On Monday, a Ludowici man lost his home at 74 Peach St. to a fire.
According to Ludowici Police Department Sgt. J.D. Campbell, at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, he and LPD Chief Richard Robertson responded to the fire.
Campbell said the home was fully engulfed in flames. Uncertain whether anyone was in the house, he and Robertson went in to search. Flames and thick black smoke stopped them from going very far.
Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire Department units arrived soon, and Capt. Karl MacDonald told his teams to implement a defensive attack.  The captain said within a few minutes, they had extinguished the blaze, but the home was a loss.  Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
MacDonald said the cause of the fire is unknown and it is still under investigation. The case will likely be handled by the state fire marshal.  
Charles Glover, the home’s owner,  was at work when the incident occurred.
MacDonald said eight firefighters from the Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire Department and eight from Long State Prison responded to the call, along with two fire trucks and one water supplying tanker.
