Liberty Elementary School students celebrated National Children’s Book Week from Nov. 2-5.
The week kicked off with a door decorating contest. Students and teachers picked their favorite book as a class and designed their classroom door to include elements of that book. Winners received a bag of books for their classroom libraries.
On Wednesday, a group of Target volunteers read books and made bookmarks with several kindergarten and first grade students. Outstanding athletes from Bradwell Institute read books on Thursday with second and third grade students.
National Children’s Book Week concluded with the annual Pajamboree. Families were able to wear their favorite pajamas and meet local author and storyteller, Bess Chappas. She captivated the audience as she read her book “Kiki and the Red Shoes” and shared stories about her childhood in Greece.
Principal Chris Anderson said, “Reading is the cornerstone and foundation of education.  National Children’s Book Week is a great time to emphasize the importance of reading with fun-filled activities.  It is important that we encourage students to take time daily to read.”
