According to an incident report filed by Lt. Wade Long of the Walthourville Police Department, a 3-year-old who shot herself in the foot took a .40 caliber Glock handgun off of a dresser in the master bedroom while her stepfather, Zachery Dale Yeager, was asleep in the room.
The child was walking from the bedroom to the
living room with the gun in her hand when it fired and struck her in the right foot.
According to the report, the bullet exited her foot from the bottom and the child picked up the bullet to show her mother, Sherrie Lee Yeager. Zachery Yeager went to the living room to find out what happened and found the child laying on the floor bleeding. He said he wrapped her foot in a towel.
The incident happened shortly after noon at Salters Mobile Home Park on Talmadge Road in Walthourville. Liberty County Sheriffs Department Det. Brian Barnes is investigating.
