On Oct. 24, the Walthourville Fire and Rescue Department demonstrated on how to extract a victim from a vehicle accident.
According to Capt. Cecil Crist, the demonstration in front of the fire department was staged to show the public how victims are removed from a vehicle using the jaws of life and other tools.
“We felt it was in the interest of the community to see how their local fire department responds to emergencies other than fires,”  Crist said.
About 25-30 people came out to see the exercise, which also involved members of the Riceboro Fire and Rescue Department. Crist said those who attended appeared to be impressed. Many thanked the department for staging the demonstration.
The cars were donated by Coastal Auto Salvage in Walthourville.
