The Long County High School football team fell to Richmond Hill, 39-21, Friday, dropping the team’s record to 0-8.

In the first quarter, the Wildcats started deep in their own territory and handed the ball off to Zach Broome. Broome got around the corner, but Tide defensive back Jake Durham tackled him at the 3-yard line.

On the next play, the Cats handed the ball to Zach Denney, who scored. After a flubbed
PAT, Richmond Hill was on top 6-0.

The Wildcats continued with
a smooth first half. The Tide had a few highlights, including several big plays for Jermaine Gibbs, who had a 31-yard kick return. Josh Berry, Justin Boyd and Durham had some success on offense. But the home team couldn’t maintain drives and never could score. The Wildcats added 13 more points to end the half at 19-0.

In the second half, Richmond Hill added another score early for a 25-0 lead. Even though they were down, the Tide continued to play hard. Boyd came in at QB in the third quarter and Luke Golden had a reception. Marcus Williams ran hard, and the team scored on a pass from Boyd to Gibbs. At the end of three, the Wildcats were up 25-7.

In the final period, Richmond Hill scored twice to go up 39-7 with just over four minutes left. Still, the Tide didn’t give up.

Boyd, Durham and Williams ran hard and the Tide moved the ball to the Wildcats’ 17, but couldn’t score. However, the Tide defense later scored twice — once on an interception returned for a touchdown by defensive back Lamar Sims and again on a fumble recovered for a touchdown by linebacker Chris Stock.
