The Altamaha Heritage Center, a nonprofit regional organization of individuals and businesses working to promote the history and cultural significance of the upper Altamaha basin, will have a daylong tour along a 16-mile stretch of the historic river road in Tattnall and Toombs counties. This first-ever event on Saturday, Oct. 31, will allow participants to visit churches, family cemeteries, ancestral home sites and the 19th century community of Perry Mills.
The tour will be anchored on the east by the old Joyce-McArthur place near Ohoopee White Bluff and on the west by the Sportsman’s Club at the English Eddy community.
“There will be a lot to see,” said Fred Brogdon of the Altamaha Heritage Center. “And the tour will give participants the opportunity to explore first-hand some of the places so important in the early settlement of the area.”
Tour stops will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tickets are $20 each and include a box lunch, which can be picked up at Providence Church between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Maps and directions will be provided.
All proceeds will be used to promote the projects and programs of the Altamaha Heritage Center.
