Liberty County residents looking for a way to top off the 4th of July weekend needn’t look any further than Salters Field in the McIntosh community where the annual Summer Slam event is set for Sunday, July 5.
The festival will include a car show, decibel drag and a live concert featuring Midway recording artists 380 and Milkk Man.
“We are fortunate to have the response we’ve been getting when considering today’s economy,” Summer Slam organizer Ernie Walthour said. “We have several food vendors that responded as well offering a variety of choices for the people to enjoy.”
Walthour said food will be available. They will have seafood and barbecue.
Gates open at 1 p.m. and the admission is $5 per person.
The decibel drag competition starts at 3 p.m. The drag allows car audio enthusiasts to pit their souped-up car audio systems against each other for three to five seconds while measuring the loudness of the systems.
The car show starts at 3:30 p.m. Several car clubs from the coastal area and Florida will compete for prizes.
380 and Milkk Man will take the concert stage at around 5 p.m.
Summer Slam drew roughly 15,000 people last year despite rain that persisted that day. So far, accuweather.com predicts a partly sunny day with possible late showers for July 5.
“We are anticipating another huge crowd based on the volume of calls we are receiving,” Walthour said. “We are real excited about putting on another summer slam.”
